Overcoming
Obstacles in Life
Grab Hold
The meaning
behind the paint
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not
envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It
does not dishonor others, it is not
self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps
no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in
evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always
protects, always trusts, always hopes, always
perseveres.
8 Love never fails. 1Corinthians 13:4-8
How many countless times in my own life have I
come to a place where I was too full of
self-illusion to see hope…let alone cling to it.
There is so much power in a friend reaching in
for you in the midst of your drowning, and
guiding you back to the surface so you can
breathe again.
It is not a shameful thing to cry out for help
in our darkest hours, because God created the
meaning of being a comrade…of laying down one’s
life for another.
In all truth, Jesus was the first to display
this to the fullest of its meanings when he laid
His decidedly died for our path to freedom, when
we were too short to reach that freedom for
ourselves.
Just like someone reaching down into the raging
sea to pull another to safety, this is what He
did for you and me.
It’s such a beautiful thing to me when we as
people choose to look past another’ weakness and
past our own self-righteousness for the sake of
their well-being. What a powerful act of
humble and self-less love this is.
One of my own strongest memories of another
doing this for me…was a time I messed up big
time by going too physically far with someone I
knew I didn’t love. I was bombarded with
the heaviest guilt and shame and felt so
worthless and shallow.
My mom didn’t reprimand me for how I messed up,
she didn’t lecture me on how I should have never
done such a thing…she cried with me…and told me
God had great things for me.
Wherever you are, in whatever place, you may not
have anyone fighting for you…so grab hold of the
rich mercies of Jesus…He will save you from your
drowning…and bring you back onto solid ground
once again.
