I looked up at him, the fire beginning to pick up, and shook my head.  “Oh no, I’m goin alright.  You can do what you like, but I’m going with that man in the morning.”  Trent sat down on the large couch near the fire and took another bite of his meat.  “Desseray, you’re being naïve…you’re a smart woman, but right now you’re not usin any common sense.  I’m sorry, but you’re not goin with this man…it’s too dangerous, we don’t know anything about him.”

“Trent Caleb Collins, I am going!  As I said before, do what you’d like for yourself, but you do not own me!  I can’t lie; you’re making me very angry right now.”  Trent laughed, finishing the last piece of his jerky.  “That’s not hard to do, Dessy.  You’ve got the temper of an angry bull sometimes.”  “Yeah, and your always the brightest red flag in the room!”  I spouted off, crossing my arms and looking into the raging fire.

He came down onto the floor and sat there with me in silence as we watched the firelight dance.  “You know there are men that are just aching to get their hands on your land.  If we pack up and leave who’s going to watch over this place?  Over the horses?”

“I’ve already been thinking about that, Trent, I’m not as illogical as you might think sometimes.”  Trent heaved out a forced, frustrated breath and leaned against the couch waiting.  “And what is it you’ve come to the decision for that arena of troubles?”  he asked, folding his arms in disagreement.  “The Lionell family…they don’t have much and they’ve been so good to me since my father past.  I’m going to offer the plantation to them for safe keeping while I’m gone.”

I looked at Trent square in the eyes.  “You know Gary will take care of it with his very life…they’re good people.”  Trent sat in silence, his mind reeling from how quickly I made such large decisions as opposed to him.  “Alright…we can meet him for breakfast…see what he proposes.  No harm in that, I guess.”  I smiled, poking the wood in the fire; it was blazing.
